Ceylon Tea – Orange Pekoe – New Vithanakande Estate
$19.00
This tea boasts well balanced notes of honey and dark chocolate with hint of pit fruit.
Description
Ceylon Tea – Ceylon tea comes from the island republic of Sri Lanka in the Bay of Bengal below the southeastern tip of India. Sri Lanka was formerly a British crown colony and it kept this name almost a quarter century after its independence. In 1972, the country changed its name to Sri Lanka and it was decided that abandoning the name “Ceylon Tea” would devastate its thriving tea industry.
The Estate
This tea is made in the low-altitude Ratnapura District. We find that New Vithanakande is the best tea that comes out of that region.
The Tea / Flavor:
This tea has long, wiry leaves that are beautifully dark brown with some silver tips. It is a great afternoon tea- or breakfast tea. New Vithanakande OP tea boasts a bold and bright flavor profile with pronounced notes of honey and dark chocolate with a hint of pit fruit. Add a splash of milk to this tea, and it will hold up well; however, it is also wonderful to enjoy on its own. We call that the perfect storm.
Brewing:
Bring 1 cup of water to a boil; pour over 1 heaping teaspoon of tea for each desired cup. Brew for 3-5 minutes and strain.
