Doke White Tea Silver Needle – organic, handmade from a unique growing region, Bihar, India
Description
Silver Needle, Doke Tea Farm – organic and handmade. We have worked with Doke Tea Farm, located in an atypical tea area of India for several years now. Most know of Assam, Darjeeling, or even the Nilgiri tea areas, but tea has been growing in Bihar for at least the past 20 years.
The Lochan Family farm nestled along the Doke River grows tea, pineapple, lemongrass, and other tropical crops. If you know the Lochan family, you know that tea is their passion. The patriarch of the family managed Darjeeling Tea Farms for most of his career. He continues to be a purveyor of fine Indian teas and has an active tea blending and packaging facility in Siliguri.
Their vision with the tea farm has been to create tea in an artisanal manner, using no machinery that will speak to the niche tea market.
So, let us talk about this tea! The buds are long, silvery, and full of down. There is a straw-like aroma predominant in the dry buds. The aroma after brewing is vegetal artichoke. On the tasting side, we found a creaminess that puts forth sweet (apricot), savory, and spice notes. Unlike many of the silver bud teas tasted previously, there is straightforward flavor while maintaining a certain mellowness leaving a lingering floral note on the roof of the mouth. Very pleasant and up to brewing several servings
