Description
Moroccan Mint Tea Blend
Moroccan Mint Tea Blend is blended using the following organic ingredients: Gunpowder green tea and peppermint.
The “gunpowder” refers to the compression of the dried tea leaves into tiny pellets; the more compact, the better the quality. So not to worry that there is any “actual” gunpowder, as the term only refers to the shape of the tea leaf. Also, a slight sheen to the gunpowder tea is generally desirable.
Traditionally Moroccan mint tea is cooked for a long period of time and tons of sugar are added to combat bitterness. One recipe we read touted 7 Tablespoons of sugar for a 6 cup teapot- Yikes! Fresh spearmint is cooked into the brew when available, otherwise dried peppermint. Since we are not sweet tea folks, we have tried it this recipe, but it makes our eyes blink! See below, for our favorite brewing method of this tea. Try it either way and adjust preparation for your own tastes!
Our preferred brewing method of the Moroccan Mint Tea Blendis to use 2-3 grams of tea. (about 1 teaspoon) Heat the water to 175º and pour over the tea leaves. Brew for 2-4 minutes. Personally, we do not add sugar, but many of our customers add a bit of honey or agave to add a tad bit of sweetness.
